The Qahal Musicians presented a Winter Potpourri at Huis Klippe Drift in Napier.  Elmarie Petersen (soprano), Arthur Appleby (tenor), Johann Nefdt and Liesbeth Möller (piano) performed at this event.  Elmarie’s interpretation of “Vienna, city of our Dreams”  was absolutely beautiful, while the audience also enjoyed Arthur’s “Vincent”  (Don McLean) and “Summertime”  (Gershwin).  Johann and Arthur’s performance of the duets “Somewhere” (Leonard Bernstein) and “A Winter’s Tale” (Mike Batt) were exquisite.  The highlight of the evening was Johann’s interpretation of “Skipskop”  (Kramer arranged by Hans Nel).  It was the first time that Johann sang this song of a small seaside village where he grew up. The three singers joined forces and left the audience with “I’ll walk with God” in their hearts.

I was a blessed evening where even the audience sang while the soloists performed their pieces. Some of the songs were: “Eternal Life”,  “Deep River”, “Plea for Africa”  and “I’ll walk with God”.

Johann Nefdt (baritone), accompanied by Leslie Rix (piano), sang at the DR Church Rondebosch Sunday afternoon concert, in aid of Huis Lückhoff Retirement Home.  The Cape Town Concert Brass directed by Gerhard de Jager was the main attraction at the event. Shirley Sutherland (soprano), accompanied by John Walton (piano), were guest artists.

The Qahal Musicians, Arthur Appleby (tenor), Johann Nefdt (baritone) and Liesbeth Möller (piano) performed the morning at a meeting of the “Vroue Landbouvereniging” in the Strand.  They called their program “A Spring Potpourri”.  They opened their program with “Plea from Africa”  (JL Bokwe).  Johann sang “Dreaming of You” (P. Mascagni), “Heimwee” (S le Roux Marais) and a few other solo’s. Arthur sang “Summertime” (Gershwin), “Aandblom is ‘n Witblom” (Pieter de Villiers) and another three solo’s.  The two singers also sang several duets, “Karoonag” (Coenie de Villiers), “Sweef soos ‘n Arend” (Mynie Grové) and “I’ll walk with God” (Brodszky). In the afternoon they repeated the program at Huis Jan Swart, also in the Strand.

The Qahal Musicians presented their Christmas with Qahal program at De Rust Retirement Village, Andante RV, AFM Old Age Home in Kuils River, Plumstead Rusoord, Edelweiss Retirement Village in Stellenberg, Bellville and La Gratitude in Durbanville.

The Qahal Musicians, Johann Nefdt (baritone), Marianne Norton (soprano) en Bertus Hanekom (piano) took part in the Christmas Singing Service of the United Reformed Church Rondebosch in Athlone.  Johann sang “Sleep Holy Child” (John W Peterson) and Marianne sang “Maria Wiegenlied” (Max Reger) and the two singers also sang a duet “Only a Child in a Manger” (Adam Kneibel).

The Qahal Musicians presented a Christmas program in the Chapel of Huis Lückhoff in Rosebank, Rondebosch.

Hesté White (mezzo), Arthur Appleby (tenor), Johann Nefdt (baritone) and Liesbeth Möller (piano) were the musicians that took part in the service.  Hesté and Johann started the program with a wonderful duet “In God’s Hart”  (John W Peterson).  Hesté also sang “Laudate Dominum” (M.A. Mozart), “Met Middernag ( O Holy Night)”  (Adolphe D’Adam) and “The Holy City”  (Stephen Adams).  Arthur sang “Stil, stil, stil” (arr: Kirby Shaw) and “Heilige Nacht” (Heinrich Marschner).  Johann’s “Hy verlaat die Tuin van God” (arr Hans Nel), “The Birthday of a King” (William Harold Neidlinger), “The Holy Child in Bethlehem” (Peterson/D’Adam) and also a beautiful duet with Arthur namely “Gesu Bambino”  (Pietro Yon).  The three singers ended the program with a beautiful version of “Silent Night” (Grüber – arr: Hans Nel)

Rev. Jan Momsen read from the Holy Scriptures and recited Inez Espost’s poem “Die Groot Geskenk (The Greatest Gift)”.
