Liesbert Möller is the accompanist of the Qahal Musicians.
Arthur Appleby is our distinguished tenor. He is the leader of the Kuils River Dutch Reformed Church choir. For many years, Arthur graciously serves Qahal Productions when required. He enchants audiences all over with his lyrical tenor voice.
Hesté White is our Soprano who graciously performs with Johann despite her busy schedule.
Bertus Hanekom is a great friend of Qahal Productions. On occasion he accompanies our vocalists if our regular accompanists are not available, Bertus is an accomplished organist, having studied under Mario Nel. Bertus is the Head of DUMA, a music school in Moreesburg.
Bertus and Johann have done numerous performances in Churches and Retirement Villages.
Izanette van Schalkwyk obtained her grade 8 in organ and piano through UNISA as part of her tertiary education.In the past, she was involved in conducting various school choirs, a piano teacher and choir trainer at the Frank Pietersen Music Centre in Paarl. She was an organist and choir director of the DR Church Kuils River, as well as being an accompanist of other musicians. Izanette obtained a doctorate in psychology at the university of Stellenbosch.
Inez Espost is a professing Christian and living relationship with the Lord through her writing poems and dramas. During her stay in the Andante Retirement Village in Kuilsriver, while her husband was cared for in the infirmary, she poured out her feelings in her poems and she also wrote two plays that were performed by the residents of Andante. Charlene Martin's musical experience is rooted very deeply in the Gospel tradition, having been raised to be an active participant and contributor in service of the church by musician parents. Her first experience as a soloist was in the Calvary Sanctuary Junior Choir at the age of 10. Years of music ministry, choir teaching and arts management followed. Charlotte Stopforth was a student of prof George van der Spuy at the Conservatory for Music at the University of Stellenbosh. She is blessed with a wonderful warm voice with lovely mid tones. She was for a short period a member of the Ad Hoc Choir of Capab. Charlotte also did voice training with Magdalena Oosthuizen at Stellenbosch. She was a very popular member of the Qahal Musicians and because of her unique voice she was always in public demand. Charlotte's studies and full time teaching forced her to leave the Qahal Musicians.
Erika Fox started with piano lessons in primary school and through high school where she accompanied the school choir. She furthered her studies at the Tygerberg College and received private tuition under Rielle Viviers to be a church organist, a well-loved position that she held for about 4 years, directing the church choir as well. Elizabeth Carstens studied music at UCT under Neil Solomon and Lamar Crowson. After obtaining her degree, she passed the Royal Schools performers’ Licenciate with Distinction. Amongst others, she has worked with the WP Police Male Voice Choir and the Cape Operatic Society. She has performed with singers, choirs and instrumentalists in various well-known venues countrywide and has completed two European tours as accompanist.
Elbé accompanied Johann Nefdt on various occasions, especially when she was the organist at the DR Church in Kuils River when Johann sang in the church services.. She also accompanied the Qahal Musicians on several occasions, especially when her daughter Elsa (soprano) was a guest singer with Qahal. Elbé received her training as organist and pianist at the Univerity of Pretoria. She teached at different schools and is now a music teacher at the Vredelust Primary School in Bellville. For more than ten years she was the organist at the DR Church in Kuils River and then took up the same position at Kenridge.
Annalie Herbst studied with Louis Botha at the Opera School at the Pretoria Technicon and with Werner Nel in Potchefstroom. After moving to Durbanville she continued lessons with Sarita Stern at UCT and Magdalena Oosthuizen at the Coservatory of Music at the University of Stellenbosch. She has performed in several churches and other local venues. In 2005 she was a soloist in Händel’s Messiah with the Stellenbosch University Orchestra. Other performances include the Franschhoek Bastille Festival, Villa Pascal in Durbanville and Music in the Gallery in Bellville.
Johanna Viljoen was a member of Qahal Productions during 2008-2009 in Wolseley. She is a very talented singer and was a great asset to our group.
Johanna can sing in any genre, from Bach to A. Lloyd Webber.
Val Cornes was born in Zimbabwe where she played in the orchestra of the Rhodesian College of Music. She was also a member of the London Symphony Orchestra. At the moment she teaches at the Belville Academy of Music and is a member of The Companions. Val is a permanent member of the Qahal Musicians and performs a lot as soloist in church services and in other concerts.
Johann Nefdt started singing as a young boy in the school choir of the Primary School Bredasdorp in the Overberg region of the Western Cape. Johann grew up in Skipskop, a very small village at the seaside near Bredasdorp, and when he was still a young boy the people took notice of his unique voice and he was always ask to sing something for visitors at their home. Hans Nel is the conductor and arranger of our group. Hans left Bellville High School in 2004 to join Qahal Music Productions. He conducted the Qahal Orchestra on several occasions including the “AFM Passion Play, various Advent Concerts as well as Easter programs. Hans does all the musical arrangments, backing tracks and transpositions for the group.
